Welcome to the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Facility at Northeastern University
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Facility
Northeastern University maintains five NMR spectrometers* and one EPR spectrometer for teaching and sponsored research. Professional NMR services are also available to non-Northeastern users.
All students and staff requesting access to the NMRs will need to first complete two online safety trainings arranged by OARS. New users should start with the User Training page.
The facility uses the FBS software for online scheduling. Users can log in with their Northeastern credentials to book time. Both the 700MHz and 400MHz NMRs, located in 020 EXP, must be booked in advance. The 400 MHz NMR is primarily reserved for undergraduate teaching during the semester, so other users are encouraged to book off-peak hours (overnight and weekends) for their experiments. The 500 MHz NMR in 117 Mugar operates as a walk-in instrument with no advance booking required. The Bruker EMX X-band EPR, also in 117 Mugar, is available for scheduling and complements NMR experiments, ideal for studying paramagnetic species, radicals, and metalloproteins. Common questions are addressed on the FAQs page.
Fee-for-Service NMR analysis is available for both NU research projects and local companies. Contact Jason Guo, Nisal Gajadeera, or Brian D’Amico for more information.
